Is it all too Weird?

With the finale of Moon Knight and the release of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the combined weirdness of those two MCU releases has me wondering – has the MCU gone too far to the weird side?

After Endgame, the slew of MCU properties released has definitely titled towards the odd (Wandavision, Loki, and even Shang-Chi and Spiderman No Way Home were in that camp). Moon Knight and Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness took that weird and doubled down on it. Not to say that these properties aren’t good (as most of them are and some are even exceptional) but I wonder how far will this go? Is it all heading in that direction?

This alse had me thinking of other weird series and films I’ve seen recently outside the MCU, like The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, The Northman, Severance, Russian Doll, Peacemaker, Yellowjackets, Succession and Outer Range, and asking a much broader question: has it all gotten just too strange? If the answer is yes, then why? Is it the strangeness of the world we live in now? Has technology made us a much weirder species?

It almost seems like odd and weird is becoming the norm and that it will feel refreshingly new to watch something that is by-the-book but of high quality (much like CODA was).

Whether this is a good or bad wave is hard to say, but it is original and you can’t say you’re bored!
